Ultimately the goal of many individuals and belief systems is the betterment of the self. There are many different ways in which this can happen such as learning to become a better person, having compassion for others, treating others like you wish to be treated yourself, trying to live in harmony with nature and the Earth.

Each individual must find their own connection to the universal divine consciousness (whatever they may call it) and that one person's path may not be the same as another.
